p_zetner This night, this band, and especially Mr. Thomas, were on fire! Heart-wrenching, stripped down version of “Final Solution”. First setting to dial up when I get my new time machine: July 14 1991 at The Paradiso, Amsterdam.

brooklynboy An acoustic version of Final Solution? Who is this? Neil Young?
I jest, but this is Ubu in pop band form, hooks to the front and just a general feeling of good times, celebratory even. That it fits them just as well as what you normally think of as their sound is testament to the band and the songs themselves. What a wonderful set, please release the whole thing (bonus tracks too) as a double album. Start a Kickstarter campaign, I'll contribute, promise. After 45+ years Ubu still thrills me.

phil obbard Epic, upbeat, energetic concert where the encore as long as the mains set! The band is in great spirits. A delight. Favorite track: Over The Moon.

Recorded July 14 1991 at The Paradiso, Amsterdam. The source is a cd of FLAC files of a house recording. Paul Hamann was the band’s soundman for the tour. Instead of relaxing or hanging out in the dressing room, Paul spent his time re-balancing the house PA system.

The concert was the last date on the tour promoting the release of ‘Worlds In Collision’ in Europe. The year, 1991, might have been the busiest of Ubu’s history – 96 concerts, including thirty-eight dates opening for The Pixies in the US / Canada and a three date festival tour of Scandinavia with Kool And The Gang and the Blues Brothers Band.

The guitar ‘expression’ in the surprise segue in ‘George Had A Hat / Pushin Too Hard’ is played by David Thomas after snatching the instrument away from Jim Jones, a routine repeated a few times over the course of the tour. David’s announcement to the audience, “We only know two verses” was code to the band.

This concert, over two hours long in its unedited state, must be the longest time on stage for Pere Ubu ever. "We never wanted to leave the stage that night. We played every song we knew and only left because we had nothing left," says Thomas.

The encore set - nearly as long as the concert set - is a bonus.
