thejudys This show was the first date with my wife of 42 years. Not necessarily “romantic” music but we loved it then and now. Thank you for releasing this gem. Favorite track: Humor Me.

D E Kempke One of the dankest and stankest Ubu live offerings yet. "The Buzz" is more than overcome by the quality of the performance and it's exciting that there's still such potent stuff in the archives. The little hip-skip flourish they add in to the "Fabulous Sequel" riff is one of my favorite live Ubu touches, scarcely documented elsewhere! Favorite track: Fabulous Sequel.

jupiterscii these early shows are thrilling, it's a time and a live experience I never thought I'd have again...and now you've posted all these early live shows! i love them all so much and am so grateful!!!

Following on from the Avant Garage bootleg, this gig was part of The Goodbye Tour, later in 1979. The tape was initially ignored because, back in 1979, David had scrawled on it - 'BIG BUZZ THROUGHOUT.' But he took another listen in 2021 and decided that it was a worthy addition to the chronological bootleg series, mostly due to some of the earliest recordings of the new songs from the upcoming album, New Picnic Time. We sent it to Adrian Burns and asked him, 'what dy'ya think? Write us something.'
He wrote: "This has been my favourite of the new bootlegs released so far. The buzz doesn't bother me. Here's my take on it -
‘Vancouver’ was recorded four+ months after the ‘Avant Garage’ bootleg. Pressures within the Pere Ubu bubble are reflected in that it belongs to a string of dates dubbed ‘The Goodbye Tour’. It is an important document of how professional, fierce and entertaining the live Pere Ubu proposition is, whatever the tensions.
The set previews material from ‘New Picnic Time’ (released September ‘79). The progression in the new songs (not fully revealed on disc until a later remastering) influences the sound and delivery of the older tracks. This recording includes a persistent buzz. The best of Ubu’s bootlegs triumph over audiophilia."
'The Buzz' was to become a recurring pinpoint in Ubu's story. The Goodbye Tour was Tom's last tour. No one remembers if that was what the tour was originally called.
This recording is from David Thomas' personal archive, consisting of cassettes and cds dating from 1975, released here as part of the Pere Ubu 'official' bootleg releases exclusive to Bandcamp.
